Hays County Emergency Information

Hays County Local Health Department today reports 114 new lab-confirmed cases since the update on Friday, July 17.  Epidemiologist Eric Schneider said the number of negatives went up by several hundred because he received new results from the Texas Division of Emergency Management testing.

In addition, there are 52 new recoveries, four (4) new hospitalizations and one hospital discharge since July 17.

“Continuing to mask up, wash hands and limit unnecessary trips can have an impact on slowing the spread of the virus,” he said. “However, COVID-19 is still active in our county so we need to continue to protect each other.”

The County’s total of lab-confirmed cases is 3,979; of those, 3,080 are considered active. The number of individuals considered recovered is 882. The number of negative tests is 12,145. Schneider is awaiting results on 63 tests.

Hays County has had 84 total hospitalizations; 23 people are currently hospitalized. Some patients are in hospitals outside Hays County but are included in our numbers if they reside here. Likewise, an individual from another county who is in a local hospital would be accounted for in their county of residence.

As noted in an earlier news release, Hays County has suspended weekend reporting of new COVID-19 cases. See that release here: https://hayscountytx.com/2020/07/17/hays-county-to-suspend-weekend-covid-reporting/

A COVID-19 Fact Sheet has been added to the County website: https://hayscountytx.com/covid-19-fact-sheet/. This document provides a glossary of terms and insight into methods and results calculations.
